The dry and cold weather has been persisting and it’s our pleasure to introduce different ways to treat your skin. Sometimes your kitchen has some of the best ingredients for a glowing skin; keep reading to explore how everyday items can help you look your absolute best for the holidays.

___

Dry skin can be super inconvenient, and most of all uncomfortable, for our daily lifestyle. Knowing your skin type should be a prerequisite for anyone trying to find new remedies and products that can benefit their skin. The four basic skin types that we see often consist of: normal, combination, oily, and dry. Whether your normal skin has even texture and tone or your dry skin has a coarse texture, the right home remedy can save your glow in the winter without all the chemicals you hate.

How Is Winter Skin Different?

The main issue individuals see with their skin quality during colder seasons is dryness and retaining moisture. The Cleveland Clinic recently reported that colder temperatures hold less moisture, making humidity levels low. Parched air can result in a dehydrated epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. We usually begin turning on our heaters near the end of October or November; high heat indoors with low humidity levels can potentially keep our skin from staying moisturized. High winds in the wintertime can also be your skin’s biggest hater, bestie! With many environmental factors trying to steal your glow, being aware of characteristics of dry skin can be a game changer. Here’s some ways to tell if the December air is drying you out:

-Skin feels rough and/or tight

-Flaking or cracking

-Lack of color, appearing dull

Easy Remedies At Home

Some of the best, natural skin hacks can be available to you right in your kitchen. Try some of these easy home remedies to attack the dryness for your next self-care Sunday.

Invest in a Humidifier

A humidifier can be the most effective way to keep your humidity levels balanced indoors. This can maintain moisture for your skin as well as throughout your body. You can find a quality humidifier at your local Target or Walmart or from your favorite e-commerce site, such as Amazon.

Refrain From Long, Hot Showers

We all love a steamy shower when it's cold out. While this may give a feeling of instant gratification, taking a scorching shower can increase dryness and damage the skin’s surface. The Baylor College of Medicine recommends considering lukewarm or room temperature showers.

Oatmeal Baths

Dermatologists studies have shown oats to be healing towards skin barrier conditions and benefiting dry skin. A milk and honey oat bath has been proven to be one of the most moisturizing. Simply using 2 cups of oatmeal, a cup of milk, and a few tablespoons of honey can combat dehydration.

Don’t Skip Your Face Masks!

Face masks are the perfect way to target problem areas on your skin while still increasing hydration and getting rid of excess oils. Try these 2 masks as a way to beat dry skin:
